Vacuum drying system is used for products which are thermally sensitive may have solvents or volatile matters present. These are necessarily batch type of dryers. Steam, hot water or hot oil can be used as a mode of heating by conduction. Normally this is a package complete with solvent recovery whenever required and vacuum system. The dryers are either with stationary or rotating housing.
These are batch dryers and volumes of dryer are taken as a reference for sizing and dryer capacity.
Double cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer: The dryer body is mounted on a rotating shaft driven by an electric motor. The shape of the dryer causes a tumbling action inside the dryer ensuring uniform mixing and drying of the product.
Cylindrical shell rotary vacuum dryer: The dryer body is stationary and the agitator inside is rotated to rake and mixed the product. These types of dryers are commonly used for large capacity batch operations. |
